The term open source was coined by Christine Peterson. It is computer software that is released under a specific license and made freely available for possible changes. Its source code is publicly made available for use or modification as users or other developers deem fit.

The beauty of open-source software is that it can be improved, added to, or modified by anyone which contributes to the growth of the software. The idea of open source technology is that in the course of using the software and you notice an issue you don’t have to report and wait for the developer to fix the problem, you can actually fix it yourself.

Any open-source project is the great idea of one person sharing freely to improve things for everyone. It brings together talented minds allowing everyone to contribute to ensure we see our values in action. Open source software is free to use and it is also secure. Examples of open-source technology include; Linux, Android, Git, Java, and so on.  Anyone can freely use, study, share, and freely contribute which makes it easy for the software to grow and improve.
