Xiaomi Corporation is advancing its plans to expand into the electric vehicle (EV) market, with the second phase of its EV factory scheduled for completion by mid-2025. This move marks a significant milestone in Xiaomi’s strategy to diversify beyond its core smartphone business and establish a strong presence in the EV industry.
The second phase of construction is underway at the Xiaomi Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Base in Beijing’s Yizhuang New Town, a high-tech hub. The facility, slated for completion by June 15, 2025, is expected to boost Xiaomi’s production capacity significantly, further cementing the company’s commitment to the EV sector. Workers at the site are reportedly pushing to meet deadlines, with overtime efforts aimed at accelerating the build.
The Inital Inroads into the EV Market
Xiaomi’s entry into the EV market started with the launch of its first electric vehicle, the SU7 sedan, in December 2023. The company has seen rapid success with this model, selling 70,000 units by the end of September 2024, just six months after deliveries began in March. This impressive uptake demonstrates Xiaomi’s ability to transfer its expertise from consumer electronics into the competitive automotive industry.
Once the second phase is complete, the expanded facility will increase production capacity and introduce enhanced automated manufacturing processes. Xiaomi is targeting an annual production output of 300,000 vehicles, positioning the company for long-term growth in the EV market.
