Apple will reportedly launch the iPhone 17 Air in September 2025. The device is expected to replace the Plus version, which has the lowest sales record in the current portfolio. Initially, the phone was rumoured to be called the iPhone 17 Slim, but today we know how thick it will be.
According to a statement from Hong Kong-based investment bank Haitong, the iPhone 17 Air could be around 6mm thick. If that’s true, it would be the thinnest iPhone ever, even thinner than the iPhone 6, which has a 6.9mm profile.
There have been conflicting rumors about the design and specifications for the device, but most sources have agreed that it will have around a 6.6-inch display. In July, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he expects the device to have a standard A19 chip, a Dynamic Island, a single rear camera, and an Apple-designed 5G modem.
Last month, Pu agreed the iPhone 17 Air will have a 6.6-inch display. He also expects the device to feature an aluminum frame, Face ID, a single 48-megapixel rear camera, a 24-megapixel front camera, and 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence.
It may only have a camera on the back, which may sound like a deal-breaker, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already said that Apple wants to “emphasize innovative form factor design” so don’t expect a flagship-level camera. This new iPhone 17 Air is definitely a gamble for Apple, so we’ll be keeping an eye on the leaks and rumors.
