Coca-Cola’s latest AI-generated Christmas ad has sparked criticism from creative experts who say the promotional video lacks credibility and artistic value. This comes in the wake of the recent trend towards generative AI in most industries, particularly in the creative industry.
The AI-generated video from Coca Cola, shows a Coca-Cola truck driving through a snowy landscape and people drinking its drinks, is an AI-based reimagining of the company’s 1995 “Holidays Are Coming” campaign. According to Forbes, three AI studios, Secret Level, Silverside AI, and Wild Card, created different versions using four generative AI models.
Critics, including Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch, have slammed the company’s decision to use AI instead of human artists. The controversial video has been viewed more than 56 million times on social media platform X. Coca-Cola defended the campaign, arguing that it combined “the power of human storytellers and generative AI.”
