MTN South Africa announced on Tuesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with China Telecom and Huawei on a strategic collaboration to advance the mobile operator’s offerings in 5G, cloud, AI and business solutions.
“This partnership combines China Telecom’s global expertise in network solutions with MTN’s broad regional reach and Huawei’s cutting-edge technology, creating a powerful alliance to drive the development of digital infrastructure on the continent,” said Kai Chen, executive vice president of China Telecom Global.
MTN South Africa, the country’s second-largest mobile operator, said the partnership will open up new business opportunities and bring improved technologies such as the Internet of Things to South Africans.
“For MTN’s corporate customers, improved network services could provide new opportunities in smart mining and industrial applications,” said Tumi Sekhukhune Chamayou, chief enterprise business officer at MTN South Africa.
