TikTok has released its Q2 2024 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, emphasizing the platform’s dedication to maintaining a safe and positive experience for its users in Nigeria. The report offers transparency on content and accounts removed for violating TikTok’s guidelines during the reporting period.
In Nigeria, over 2.1 million videos were removed for guideline violations, accounting for less than 1% of the total videos uploaded. This demonstrates TikTok’s ongoing efforts to enhance content moderation and protect its diverse community.
Notably, 99.1% of these videos were proactively removed before any user reports. On the other hand, 90.7% were taken down within 24 hours of being posted. These numbers underscore the platform’s ability to stay ahead of harmful content, making the platform safer for Nigerian users.
Globally, in June 2024 alone, TikTok removed over 178 million videos, with 144 million of those taken down using automated systems. These technological advancements significantly reduce the volume of content requiring human moderation. This is with a view to minimizing exposure to harmful material. With a proactive detection rate of 98.2% worldwide, TikTok continues to improve its ability to eliminate harmful content before users even see it.
As TikTok invests in cutting-edge moderation technologies, its commitment to transparency and user safety remains paramount. This ensures a secure environment for both Nigerian and global users, fostering a safe space for creativity and connection.
