Dangote Refinery has revealed the price of petrol, saying it sells it at N990 per litre to trucks and N960 per litre to ships.
The revelation follows allegations by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) and the Petroleum Products Retailers Owners Association of Nigeria (Petroan) that they are importing products at cheaper prices than Dangote. The traders in earlier interviews had called on Dangote Refinery to collaborate with stakeholders, claiming they are buying cheaper products overseas.
But the refinery was quick to reply, saying only adulterated products can be imported at a cheaper price than its own. Dangote Refinery, in a statement released on Sunday evening and signed by its Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiedzina, said it was guided by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPCL) price benchmark, adding that it was applying lower prices for sales to vessels.
It states: We compare our prices with international prices and believe our prices are competitive compared to import prices. If anyone claims they can bring PMS into the country cheaper than we sell it for, they are importing adulterated products without considering the health and lifespan of Nigerians and are colluding with international traders to dump adulterated products into the country. .Unfortunately, the regulator (NMDPRA) does not even have a testing facility that can detect substandard products when they are imported into the country. After deregulation, NNPC took the lead by selling PMS to domestic traders at 971 naira per litre for shiploads and 990 naira for truckloads. This became our pricing benchmark and we have now reduced it further to N960 per litre for boat sales and N990 per litre for truck sales.
