There has been a controversy on the topic of eSports. Some people argue that since it requires careful strategizing and planning then it can be termed to be a sport. While others argue that sport is an activity that requires physical fitness and activity. It shouldn’t be done while relaxing and watching a screen.

Irrespective of people’s perceptions, eSports has come to stay. ESports is a short form for Electronic Sports. It is an online gaming exercise that takes place in an organized and competitive environment. With the aid of technology, eSports has gone beyond having a particular way or trend of being played.

From virtual reality, and augmented reality, to the use of mobile devices resulting in a more accessible and immersive gaming experience. In this article, we will also discuss current trends in eSports and its growth potential. Want to know all about these? Then hop on!

ESports have experienced growth in recent years after the COVID-19. People were forced to stay indoors, and they became creative with their time indoors. It was during this period that working remotely became rampant. Esports also became a thing for them. these days.

With the development of new technologies, eSports have expanded and have experienced new gaming trends. These trends include;

#1. Augmented reality and virtual reality

Augmented reality and virtual reality have created a more immersive gaming experience for users. For virtual reality, gamers will have to put on headwear to play and control the game. Augmented reality, on the other hand, literally puts you into the game. It takes photos of different environments and overlays them in the real world. Making it possible for individuals to feel like they are part of the game themselves. This can either happen with the use of sensors or through a mobile phone. This creates a more immersive gaming experience and takes eSports to a whole different level.

#2. Mobile eSports

Mobile eSports have become popular due to their accessibility and ease of use. Almost everyone interested in esports has a mobile app for it on their smartphones or devices. Gamers can play these games anywhere and at any time of the day with these apps. It also creates a sense of togetherness by bringing people together to compete and try their skills.

#3. Cloud gaming

Unlike the mobile eSports that you have to install or download on your mobile device or laptop. Cloud gaming makes use of remote servers stored in data centres to stream games on devices. Cables, consoles, and connecting wires are not needed to play games.

#4. Cross-platform play

Gamers can compete with each other from different platforms irrespective of the device they are using for the game. The ability of these esports to function together with other devices creates a seamless gaming experience.

#5. Blockchain integration

A Blockchain is a decentralized platform that allows users to share information within a network. Blockchain technology has been incorporated into the esports space thereby transforming the gaming space. This technology allows gamers to trade cryptocurrencies, NFTs, and other forms of funds within an application. Game items such as upgrading a character or acquiring new assets for a better gaming experience can also be traded for money.

#6. Live streaming

Gamers do not have to leave the comfort of their homes to be entertained by a game. They can easily connect their device to the internet and stream games online while it is taking place. Some gamers like to compete with each other and then stream it publicly. They might even go as far as providing commentaries on the game. These gaming competitions are streamed on platforms such as Twitch, YouTube, and so on. With live streaming more people are brought to the awareness of online gaming and how to partake.

Exploring the Future of E-Sports: Potential for Growth

According to Statisica Market Forecast, the eSports market worldwide is estimated to reach US$5.74bn after the end of 2030. The eSports sector is thriving and will become recognized worldwide. This is because most people involved in utilizing eSports are mostly youths and teenagers. This audience keeps on growing and becoming more digitalized. The accessibility of eSports anywhere and anytime is also an added advantage to its growth.

Additionally, the founding countries of these gaming platforms are seriously pushing them to the general world. Countries such as Europe, China, and North America are greatly invested in seeing that eSports is a global reality. eSports have an increasing market value. From individuals gaming to have fun and spend a good time relaxing, to individuals becoming professional gamers who have a large audience online.

Becoming a voice in this field has its benefits for gamers. They can be contacted for influencing gigs, or corporate sponsorship which can be a good source of income depending on the company they are working with. Even with the massive audience online, they can make money by competing with other professionals online on livestreaming.

These days, courses related to eSports are now being taught as academic courses in some colleges in Europe and the USA. These courses centre on improving the gaming experience and outlook of gaming apps for a better and more inclusive gaming experience. Scholarships are even awarded in these courses for students to learn at zero or minimal cost. This has also led to more job opportunities and career prospects.

Wrap-Up: Exploring the Future of E-Sports

Esports is a sector that has been massively improving and growing in the last few years. Aside from being a fun activity, it can be a good way to spend time with family, and friends. Furthermore, because technology is ever-evolving, eSports will keep on evolving with the latest development technology has to offer.

However, as eSport rapidly rises, it is essential for the government or institutions supporting gaming to regulate laws guiding online gaming. This is to protect individuals from cyber attacks, cyberbullying, and even cyber crimes. Additionally, gamers should not fail to surround themselves with support systems that can regularly help them to ensure they are mentally healthy.
