Tesla will launch fully realized V4 Supercharger stations next year, providing up to 500 kW of charging power for electric vehicles (EVs) and up to 1.2 MW for commercial semi-trucks. Approvals for locations to install the new V4 cabinets are currently being obtained, and the stations are expected to open in 2025. These improved systems will feature advanced electronics that will enable faster charging for the Tesla Cybertruck and compatible electric vehicles from other manufacturers.
Tesla began rolling out V4 stations in select locations in Europe and the US last year, but so far they have been limited by the V3 Supercharger infrastructure, which supports a maximum charging speed of 250kW. The upcoming V4 cabinets will address these limitations and offer significant improvements.
Key improvements include physical payment terminals for easy payment options and longer charging cables for a variety of electric vehicle designs without vehicles blocking adjacent charging stations. Additionally, the V4 chargers incorporate CCS ports, eliminating the need for non-Tesla owners to bring their adapters.
Tesla reports that the V4 cabinets are more efficient to implement and can power up to eight charging stations each. These advancements will particularly benefit owners of electric vehicles from brands such as Porsche, Hyundai and Kia, who currently experience reduced charging speeds at V3 Superchargers because they do not support high-voltage charging.
The launch of the V4 Superchargers highlights Tesla’s commitment to expanding the capabilities of its charging network and ensuring compatibility with a wider range of electric vehicles while supporting the growing demand for ultra-fast charging solutions.
