NNPC Retail Limited (NRL), a subsidiary of NNPC Ltd, is actively driving the adoption of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a cleaner and more affordable fuel alternative in Nigeria. As part of this initiative, NRL trained over 1,000 auto mechanics at the recent National Artisans and Technicians Conference in Lagos, focusing on converting gasoline-powered vehicles to CNG.
This event brought together a large audience of mechanics and technicians from across the country. The main goal was to simplify the conversion process and encourage the transition to sustainable energy solutions. In addition, the engagement included practical demonstrations, allowing participants to gain hands-on insights into the technical aspects of vehicle conversion.
NRL also used the platform to promote its Oleum lubricant range, which performs well in both gasoline and CNG-powered engines. The initiative highlights NRL’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s shift toward cleaner energy while keeping artisans informed about emerging automotive trends.
Baba Shettima Kukawa, NRL’s Executive Director of Retail Operations & Mobility, emphasized the importance of this training in achieving Nigeria’s long-term energy goals. He encouraged mechanics to acquire the necessary skills for CNG conversion, calling it a growing trend that will shape the future of Nigeria’s automotive industry.
Leaders of the Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) and the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) praised NRL for its proactive approach, He also called for more extensive training on converting vehicles to CNG nationwide
In support of local mechanics, NRL distributed coveralls, toolboxes, and generators to participants. This move aligns with NNPC Ltd’s broader vision of reducing Nigeria’s environmental footprint while making fuel more affordable for the public.
